Encounters: Photography by Audrey Vercoutere

Encounters: Photography by Audrey Vercoutere

Audrey Vercoutere is a Belgian photographer living in Manila since 2010. After pursuing a bachelor degree in journalism in Brussels, she decided to go back to her passion for photography and undertook studies at the Brussels Photography school. Following graduation, she worked for various modeling agencies, advertising agencies, magazines, and museums, being more interested in the process than in the subject.

In the Philippines, she has never worked as a professional photographer, but she regularly takes her camera along when doing voluntary work or merely wandering the streets of Manila. Her exhibition is a selection of her encounters with the children and people of Manila whose smiles and strength, she says, is a lesson to the world. Contrary to her work in Belgium, she underlines, these photos are not for the art of photography, but to capture the heart of Filipinos.

All profits of the exhibition go to Virlanie Foundation.
