Plazas, Cities, and Urban Design

In a special talk presented in line with the digital exhibition The Plazas of Manila, guest curator Paulo Alcazaren will lecture on the history of cities and its essential elements, such as plazas, parks, and open spaces, especially in the Philippines. The talk is a primer on city planning, urban design, and landscape architecture, and how these disciplines of design can help shape our future.

About Paulo Alcazaren

Paulo Alcazaren’s academic foundation lies in separate degrees in Architecture and Landscape Architecture from the University of the Philippines and a Masters in Arts Degree in Urban Design from the National University of Singapore. His collective experience in architecture and urban design over a period of 30 years spanning the Middle East and Asia, including China and the Philippines, makes him one of the most active advocates of cultural heritage preservation and conservation in the Philippines.

A natural extension of his passion for design and cultural heritage is his work as a writer and photographer. His byline appears in “City Sense,” a weekly column in The Philippine Star, and in books and magazines here and abroad.
