YUCHENGCO MUSEUM ON MAY 18, INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY
On Wednesday, May 18, Yuchengco Museum offers a day of free admission to all its exhibitions and galleries as part of the worldwide celebration of International Museum Day.
Every May 18 since 1977, the International Council of Museums has organized International Museum Day to highlight the importance of the role of museums as institutions that serve society and its development. The goal is to raise awareness of the fact that museums are important to cultural exchange, to the enrichment of cultures, and to the development of mutual understanding, cooperation, and peace among peoples.
This year, International Museum Day focuses on “museums and cultural landscapes,” highlighting the responsibility of museums not only to their collections, but also to their environment, including the cities, villages, and communities to which they belong.
What’s on at Yuchengco Museum
Four floors of ten galleries showcase Filipino art and creativity in a wide variety of forms, from drawings, paintings, and fine art prints to site-specific installations, video, and digital exhibitions.
On the first floor, explore Aze Ong’s Liwanag sa Kawalan ng Kulay crochet site-specific installation and see works by Filipino master painters.
On the second floor, catch a glimpse of Asian fine art prints from the museum collection.
On the third floor, relax underneath Tony Gonzales and Tes Pasola’s Suspended Garden site-specific installation made of recycled paper pulp, interact with highlights from BenCab in Two Movements, view paintings, drawings, and a reconstruction of Danilo Arriola’s studio at Light in the Darkness, and examine paintings by National Artist for Visual Arts Fernando Amorsolo.
On the fourth floor, check out fine examples of Chinese painting and calligraphy, discover more about our National Hero Jose Rizal, and learn more about the Yuchengco family and the Yuchengco Group of Companies.
